What I did in 2015...part 2 or Vintage Girl pregnancy looks

So, here we are with the second part of my 2015 review. I spend nine months in 2015 being pregnant and in the end the variety of my clothes was very small. But I knew that this was only for a small period of time. Now I really enjoy it, to go back to my normal me (clothing-wise) and I can wear a lot of my wardrobe again, but still some clothes are to tight. Let's see what the future brings here. The reason for all this smiles at me everyday and makes it all worth it a thousand times :)

So, lets take a look, what I wore and what I made for my growing belly:

This gathered skirt has a wide waistband and shirring in the back. This makes it very flexibel. This worked from the 5th month to around the beginning of the 7th. It is made from a nice printed cotton, has rick-rack at the hem and pockets. The nice thing is, that I will be able to wear that also now that I'm not pregnant.

Another wardrobe staple was this jersey pencil skirt from Burdastyle.de. I made it out of very stretchy jersey and so I was able to wear it from beginning to the end(!). This was really easy to make and absolutely worth the time.

I also made two jersey dresses from a cherry-picking pattern. This one above is also made with jersey from their pattern line. Another one (which I never made a photo of...weird) is made from cherry printed jersey. I wore both also since my baby was born, so they're really versatile, too.

Speaking of jersey dresses: I love them and always will! Nothing beats an easy to wear, but cute jersey dress. Exactly what you need when your body is working hard to produce a baby :)

This is obviously a very special "outfit" of 2015 ;) I didn't made it myself because I didn't have the time to, but I loved my dress. It is from the UK based tiffanyrose.com.

I also wore this dungarees (thrifted, not made by me). They have clever buttons at the side, so you can change the width of the pants.

Of course I wanted to make a vintage maternity pattern, too. So I was browsing etsy and fell in love with this Simplicity (vintage 4635) pattern. This also can be worn while pregnant and afterwards (Hooray for flexibel clothing!!). I did not wear it yet again, because it it very cold outside, but I will try as soon as spring is here. It is a very easy, only a wide dress with a sash to control the width in the back. Here I am doing my housewife duties ;)

Discover your home town

I live in Berlin, a city which has a lot to offer. That's why I love to play tourist from time to time and discover hidden places. A few weeks ago, we made a walk through Köpenick, which is a disctrict in southern Berlin. This area has a lot of water, like the famous lake called "Müggelsee". So you see a lots of boats here, which make you fell like you're in holiday somewhere in Italy sometimes. It also has a lot of beautiful historic buildings and a palace. Fall gave us an amazing coloful autumn day, which turned the palace grounds into an almost mystical place.

There is one person, who made Köpenick very famous and this is the "Hauptmann von Köpenick" (captain of Köpenick). In 1906 he dressed himself up as an captain, although he was a shoemaker. He managed to get into the city hall, with some soldiers who believed that he was a real captain, and robbed the city treasures. This made him famous here in Germany and there is a statue of him in front of the city hall.

In the pictures you can spot one of my hat designs, which are available through etsy (or dawanda). It is made from the same fabric as my Gertie coat. The suitcase was a flea market find of my boyfriend, who also took all of these great photos.

In love with: vintage jeans

I'm a sucker for denim and when it comes to vintage fashion, I like it even more. Honestly, I would wear anything made from denim. I have dresses, bags, skirts and of course pants. 

Sometimes vintage style dresses can be a little too dressy in the everyday life. Sometimes I just want to wear a pair of jeans and a shirt. But I still want the whole outfit to have a vintage touch. That's where a nice pair of jeans comes in. Let's swoon over some vintage jeans goodness:

Hey, Sailor!

Today it's all about maritime flair! As I told you in my last post, I shoot some more outfits last month.
The first one is the Wearing History Playsuit, I already posted it here and here. Time went by and I never took some nice pictures of the whole outfit, so I took the chance!

I made another sailor pin up outfit back in 2008. The pattern was drafted by myself. Here it is, 2014 and my 2008 me:

Fall for Cotton wrap up

I'm really happy with how it turned out and will be making it again for sure. I like alle the amazing details, like the shirring in the back. This makes it very comfortable. It also has pockets, which is very useful. I made bound buttonholes again on this dress and I'm getting better and better. I nearly like them more than normal buttonholes, I think they're just so pretty.

The dress was made of a nice cotton flower print and my buttons are vintage from my stash.

So, here we go, my finished shirtwaist dress from Gertie's new book for better sewing.

Zoey likes the dress, too. 

What's next?

I'm finally in the preparations for the starlet suit jacket, the second craftsy course by Gertie. Also I cut a muslin for a beautiful 40s style pants, which will be made from corduroy.

Zig-Zag and Denim

the last week I almost spend with friends in the sun, that's why I wasn't busy sewing. I made some hand embroidery and some mending stuff, but that was all craft stuff I did.

Letzte Woche habe ich hauptsächlich mit Freunden in der Sonne verbracht, weshalb ich nähtechnisch kaum etwas gemacht habe. Ich habe ein bisschen gestickt und ein paar Reparaturen gemacht, aber das wars auch schon mit meiner handwerklichen Betätigung.

While it is still summer out there, I felt I needed a new sewing project. I had the idea of a pinafore style skirt for a while and I decided to jump into this project! I wanted an a-line skirt with pockets and crossed in the back straps. I also wanted to add a front pocket and my red zig zag trim I had in my stash for a little while.

Obwohl es draußen immer noch sommerlich war ist, brauchte ich ein neues Nähprojekt. Mir spukte schon lange ein Latzrock im Kopf herum, also beschloss ich, diese Idee nun mal umzusetzen. Ich wollte einen Rock in A-Linie mit Taschen und gekreuzten Trägern. Außerdem wollte ich eine Fronttasche und meine roten Zick-Zack-Borte unterbringen, die ich seit einiger Zeit rumzuliegen hatte.

I drafted an a-line skirt first. I have a basic skirt pattern from my pattern making course last year, so that's always my basic model. I then added the side pockets.

Zuerst zeichnete ich einen Rock in A-Linie. Ich benutze dazu immer meinen Grundschnitt aus meinem Schnittmusterkurs vom letzten Jahr. Dann zeichnete ich darauf basierend die Seitentaschen.

After that I made a simple square with a side length of 30 cm. Then I tappered the upper edge a bit, because I wanted it to be narrower there. 
I draw far to long straps, I had to take out about 10 cm on the muslin. 

Danach zeichnete ich ein einfaches Quadrat mit 30 cm Seitenlänger. Ich zeichnete diese nach oben hin etwas schmaler, da ich den Latz eher Trapezförmig haben wollte. Die Träger habe ich erstmal viel zu lang gemacht, ich konnte ca. 10 cm im Probemodell wieder raus nehmen.

The upper flap is sewn between the inner and outer waist band, like the straps in the back.

Der Latz ist zwischen dem inneren und äußeren Taillenband mitgefasst, ebenso die Träger.
 

The skirt has a snap closure and a red button at the waist band.

Der Rock wird mit Druckknöpfen und einem roten Knopf am Bund geschlossen.
 

 

The fabric is a thin denim like fabric with a little stretch. It has a nice sheen to it, but also likes to wrinkle very easy.

Der Stoff ist ein dünner Jeansstoff mit etwas Stretch. Er hat einen schönen Schimmer, aber knittert auch sehr leicht.

I wore the skirt the same day, that I finished it. In this picture I'm wearing it with a sheer polka dot blouse and light blue wedges. The outfit had a little tiki touch with the hair florwers and the bamboo handle bag.

Den Rock habe ich dann auch gleich am selben Abend getragen. Hier trage ich ihn mit einer durchsichtigen Polka Dot Bluse und hellblauen Wedges. Das Outfit hatte einen kleinen Tiki Touch, durch die Blumen im Haar und die Tasche mit dem Bambushenkeln.

1940s Overalls and Race61

I finished my second project based on a Wearing History Pattern. I made a pair of 1940s overalls. These were worn during WWII when women needed to work at factories or farms. I think they're so cute and absolutely comfy.

Ich habe mein zweites Projekt nach einem Wearing History Schnitt gemacht. Es handelt sich dabei um einen 1940er Overall. Diese wurden in den vierziger Jahren getragen, als Frauen vermehrt in Fabriken und auf dem Land arbeiten mussten. Ich finde diese Overalls absolut süß und sie sind auch noch absolut bequem.

I made it from classic denim with decorative double stitching at most of the seams. I didn't had real jeans thread on hand so I used some embroidery thread from my embroidery machine and it worked really good. Next time I'd like to learn how to make lap seams.

Ich habe meinen Overall ganz klassisch aus Denim gemacht, außerdem habe ich die meisten Nähte mit den typischen Jeans Ziersteppungen gearbeitet. Ich hatte kein Jeansgarn zur Hand und habe stattdessen Stickgarn von meiner Stickmaschine dafür benutzt, hat super funktioniert. Beim nächsten Mal würde ich auch gerne Kappnähte machen.

I made a muslin and then took out some width of the bodice. I will add a bit lenght to the trouser legs next time.

Ich habe vorher ein Probeteil gemacht und danach ein wenig Weite aus dem Oberteil raus nehmen müssen. Beim nächsten Mal hätte ich auch gerne noch einen Tick mehr Länge an den Hosenbeinen.

I wore it at this years Race61 in Finowfurt, a RocknRace festival at an open air aircraft museum. Although it was a bit rainy and therefore the actual racing was cancelled yesterday, it was a nice day. There were so many beautiful Custom and Classic Cars, Hot Rods and motorcycles. I didn't know where to watch first ;) I captured some of these beauties at the end of the post for you. I also would like to thank the nice owner of the beetle, who let me take my picture even inside the car!

Ich habe den Overall zum diesjährigen Race 61 in Finowfurt getragen, ein RocknRace Festival auf einem Freilicht Luftfahrtmuseum. Obwohl es leider viel geregnet hat, weswegen die eigentlichen Rennen auch abgesagt werden mussten, war es ein schöner Tag. Es gab so viele wunderschöne Custom und Classic Cars, Hot Rods und Motorräder zu bestaunen, ich wusste gar nicht, wo ich zuerst hinschauen sollte ;) Ich habe ein paar der Schönheiten für euch am Ende des Posts. Vielen Dank an dieser Stelle an den netten Besitzer des Käfers, der so nett war sein Auto für meine Fotos zur Verfügung zu stellen!

A day before the event I decided that I wanted a new blouse to go with the overalls. So I starte one at six o clock pm, then finished it the next morning half an hour before I started to Finowfurt ;) It is a variation of the Simplicity pattern #4077. It is my alltime favorite blouse pattern, I made maybe ten blouses with it until today. I made some updates on the pattern, because I didn't use it for a couple of years. I made pleats at the sleeve caps instead of gathers and I changed the collar to a pointy one.

Einen Tag vor dem Event beschloss ich noch, eine neue Bluse zum Overall zu brauchen. Also habe ich um sechs Uhr abends angefangen und am nächsten Morgen eine halbe Stunde vor meiner Abreise zum Event war ich dann fertig ;) Ich habe den Schnitt 4077 von Simplicity benutzt, ich glaube ich schon so ca. zehn Blusen damit gemacht. Dieser ist mein absoluter Lieblingsschnitt. Ich habe ihn ein wenig aktualisiert, denn ich hatte ihn lange nicht benutzt. Außerdem habe ich Falten anstatt Kräusel an der Armkugel benutzt und den Kragen in eine spitze Form umgezeichnet.
