What I did in 2015...part 2 or Vintage Girl pregnancy looks

So, here we are with the second part of my 2015 review. I spend nine months in 2015 being pregnant and in the end the variety of my clothes was very small. But I knew that this was only for a small period of time. Now I really enjoy it, to go back to my normal me (clothing-wise) and I can wear a lot of my wardrobe again, but still some clothes are to tight. Let's see what the future brings here. The reason for all this smiles at me everyday and makes it all worth it a thousand times :)

So, lets take a look, what I wore and what I made for my growing belly:

This gathered skirt has a wide waistband and shirring in the back. This makes it very flexibel. This worked from the 5th month to around the beginning of the 7th. It is made from a nice printed cotton, has rick-rack at the hem and pockets. The nice thing is, that I will be able to wear that also now that I'm not pregnant.

Another wardrobe staple was this jersey pencil skirt from Burdastyle.de. I made it out of very stretchy jersey and so I was able to wear it from beginning to the end(!). This was really easy to make and absolutely worth the time.

I also made two jersey dresses from a cherry-picking pattern. This one above is also made with jersey from their pattern line. Another one (which I never made a photo of...weird) is made from cherry printed jersey. I wore both also since my baby was born, so they're really versatile, too.

Speaking of jersey dresses: I love them and always will! Nothing beats an easy to wear, but cute jersey dress. Exactly what you need when your body is working hard to produce a baby :)

This is obviously a very special "outfit" of 2015 ;) I didn't made it myself because I didn't have the time to, but I loved my dress. It is from the UK based tiffanyrose.com.

I also wore this dungarees (thrifted, not made by me). They have clever buttons at the side, so you can change the width of the pants.

Of course I wanted to make a vintage maternity pattern, too. So I was browsing etsy and fell in love with this Simplicity (vintage 4635) pattern. This also can be worn while pregnant and afterwards (Hooray for flexibel clothing!!). I did not wear it yet again, because it it very cold outside, but I will try as soon as spring is here. It is a very easy, only a wide dress with a sash to control the width in the back. Here I am doing my housewife duties ;)

So, I hope this was a bit of help for all pregnant ladies, who love vintage inspired looks :)

Hey, Sailor!

Today it's all about maritime flair! As I told you in my last post, I shoot some more outfits last month.
The first one is the Wearing History Playsuit, I already posted it here and here. Time went by and I never took some nice pictures of the whole outfit, so I took the chance!

I made another sailor pin up outfit back in 2008. The pattern was drafted by myself. Here it is, 2014 and my 2008 me:

Fall for Cotton wrap up

I'm really happy with how it turned out and will be making it again for sure. I like alle the amazing details, like the shirring in the back. This makes it very comfortable. It also has pockets, which is very useful. I made bound buttonholes again on this dress and I'm getting better and better. I nearly like them more than normal buttonholes, I think they're just so pretty.

The dress was made of a nice cotton flower print and my buttons are vintage from my stash.

So, here we go, my finished shirtwaist dress from Gertie's new book for better sewing.

Zoey likes the dress, too. 

What's next?

I'm finally in the preparations for the starlet suit jacket, the second craftsy course by Gertie. Also I cut a muslin for a beautiful 40s style pants, which will be made from corduroy.

mixed topic - books and more

Seit dem roten Retro-Kleid ist nähtechnisch nicht viel passiert (ok, was kleines, dazu später mehr), daher habe ich beschlossen euch die Neuzugänge in meiner kleinen "Bibliothek" zu zeigen. Zwei davon habe ich aus London mit gebracht, ich kann den Buch-shop des V&A-Museums nur wärmstens empfehlen...hätte es keine Gewichtsbegrenzung am Flughafen gegeben...Die zwei anderen habe ich vor kurzem bei der wundervollen Ausstellung "fashioning fashion" im Deutschen Historischen Museum erstanden, eins davon ist der offizielle Katalog der Ausstellung.

Aus London habe ich mir "Vintage Lingerie" von Jill Salen und "Forties Fashion" von Jonathan Walford mit gebracht.
Beide bieten zu erst einmal tolles Augenfutter. Im "Forties Fashion" ist die Mode der 40er Jahre unter dem Einfluss der großen geschichtlichen Ereignisse dieser Zeit dargestellt. Der Untertitel des Buches lautet "from siren suits to the New Look". Es werden immer jeweilige Trends und der Wandel der Kleidung zum Beispiel durch den Krieg gezeigt, alles zusammen mit sehr schönen Bildern von Originalkleidung und Fotos aus der Zeit.

"Vintage Lingerie" finde ich persönlich besonders toll, es werden historische Unterwäschestücke und Schnitte gezeigt, es bewegt sich ca. zwischen 1850 und 1970. An zwei Projekten werden verschieden Nähtechniken gezeigt. Definitiv zu empfehlen. 

// "Vintage Lingerie" is one of my favorites. It is about historic under garments. You also have patterns! It contains under garments from 1850 to 1970. Two projects are full with instructions and sewing techniques. Totally recommended!

Das nächste Buch habe ich mit genommen, weil es für seine 10,00 € ganz schön dick ist. Es heißt "Fashion - Mode von 1900 bis heute" von Harriet Worsley. Es bietet hauptsächlich Fotografien zur jeweiligen Mode, es ist die Art von Buch, die man durch blättert und sich treiben lässt. 

// I found the next book in the museums book shop in Berlin, it was very low priced but really thick. It mostly has photographs, I think its one of these books, which you can look into and just let yourself coasting through the pages.

Zu guter letzt noch der wunderschön aufbereitete Katalog zur oben genannten Ausstellung. Das Buch ist sehr hochwertig gemacht, tolle Bilder der Exponate sind ebenso zu finden, wie Beschreibungen Textur, Form und Dekoration. Es ebenso schön wie die Ausstellung selber (die ich nur empfehlen kann, das Deutsche Historische Museum ist eh einen Besuch wert).

// The last one is the wonderfull designed catalogue of the exhibition mentioned above. It contains wonderfull pictures of the garments on display. Also it has descriptions of texture, shape and decoration of the european fashions. I can highly recommend the exhibition itself!!

Work in process - Jenny pencil skirt

In Sachen Nähen bin ich derzeit an einem Bleistiftrock nach dem Jenny-Schnitt von burdastyle.com. Genau genommen, bin ich inzwischen fast fertig, ich muss noch das Futter per hand innen annähen und da ich die Version mit den Hosenträgern machen möchte, diese auch noch fertig machen.

Ich habe mich endlich für einen Schnittkonstruktions-Kurs angemeldet!!! Ein Gebiet, auf dem ich schon lange mehr wissen möchte! Ich freue mich daher sehr auf den Kurs, in vier Wochen gehts los. Wo? Im Nähinstitut am Moritzplatz hier in Berlin (http://www.linkle.de/). Ich bin sehr gespannt und vorfreudig und werde dann natürlich berichten. 

// I signed up for a pattern construction course, this is the area of expertise which I really want to know more about. It starts in about four weeks. Where? In the Sewing Institute here in Berlin (http://www.linkle.de/). I'm very excited about it and I will post my experiences here.

Walk away dress + Roleplay Convention

Hallo liebe Leser :)

schon wieder eine Weile nichts geblogged, also wirds mehr als Zeit. // it’s about time for some new stuff here, so here we go 

Im heutigen Post gehts um zwei Sachen, einmal um unseren Kostümausflug zur Roleplay Convention Anfang Mai und zum anderen um mein neues Kleid, das Butterick 4790, auch bekannt als "walk away dress". // Today it’s about the Roleplay convention on one hand and a new retro inspired dress on the other.

Das erste halbe Jahr ging es hier ja sehr kostümlastig zu, da meine beste Freundin, mein Jedi und ich zur RPC nach Köln gefahren sind, natürlich alle im Kostüm. Ich hatte ja bereits einige Schritte meines Rosenkleides dokumentiert, jedoch bin ich euch noch Bilder mit Inhalt schuldig. Außerdem noch meine Freundin im Outfit "Jane" nach einem Charakter aus Twilight. // My blog was very costume-ish the first month of this year, because of the Rolyplay Convention. For this trip my best friend and my personal Jedi needed costumes. I was there in my Arwen-Dress, which I wrote about before. The outfit for my best friend was the “Jane” hooded cloak from inspired by Twilight.

Nach der RPC war mir nach etwas einfachem und schnellem, also habe ich ein Kleid nach einem Butterick-schnitt genäht, welches ich letzten Sommer schon mal durch kopiert hatte. Das Kleid besteht aus genau 3 Schnitteilen, viel Abnähern und Schrägband. Das Kleid ist aus rotem ganz feinem Cordstoff mit Stickerei. Obwohl ich vorher schon einige Anpassungen gemacht hatte, ist es doch noch etwas weit, finde ich. Ich werd da also noch mal ran müssen, in der Taille muss es einfach enger sitzen. Aber hier erst mal der aktuelle Stand, natürlich nur echt mit Katze :) // After the RPC was finished, I needed something quick and easy, so I came back to a pattern I started last year. The pattern consists of the pattern pieces, a lot of darts and a lot of bias tape. I made my dress from a red embroidered needlecord. I made some adjustments before cutting out the fabric, but it is still a bit to loose. I need to change that afterward. So here some pictures, of course the Is one with a cat

Sommerkleid im Herbst.

Letzte Woche war das Wetter schön und ich habe einen Herbstmantel genäht. Diese Woche ist das Wetter mies und ich stelle ein Sommerkleid fertig. Wie man es auch macht, nicht wahr?

Für dieses Kleid habe ich ein Schnittmuster von Butterick genommen (#4513). Ich habe den Rock stark gekürzt und das Oberteil verlängert. Danach ging alles ganz schnell. Ziemlich schnell, denn das Kleid war bis auf die Saumeinfassung in drei Stunden fertig. Es wird einfach über den Kopf gezogen und im Rücken durch Gummiband auf Figur gebracht. Dazu gibts noch einen schlichten Gürtel.

Zu so einem Kleid, mit einem Wahnsinns-Tellerrock braucht man natürlich einen Petticoat :) Und diesen habe ich natürlich gemacht. Er besteht aus einer Lage dünnem weißen Stoff (was blusenartiges, genauere Angaben habe ich nicht ;) ) und einer Lage Tüll. Der war ganz schön zickig, aber ich habe ihn besiegt. Dann noch "schnell" 16 m Schrägband an den Saum und er war fertig...




Last week, I made my jacket for fall and it was summer outside, today i finished a summer dress and it seems to be fall outside...This dress was made with a butterick pattern (#4513). I shortened the skirt and lenghtened the bodice. The sewing was more than easy, it was done in just three hours (except the hem). It has elastic in the back and a simple belt.

For this kind of dress you definitely need a petticoat. So I made one. It is made of one layer from simple white fabric and one layer of tulle. The tulle was much more stressful than the whole black dress ;) After I defeated the tulle, I "only" had to hem 16 m with bias tape...

Als der Frühling erwachte...

...und zu einem Kleid wurde!

Dieses Schnittmuster aus der Burdastyle 02/2011 gefiel mir sofort. Der Schnitt ist schön, aber schlicht und bietet viel Spielraum ihn mit verschiedenen Stoffen zu variieren. Meine Wahl viel auf einen Baumwollstoff in hell-grau, bedruckt mit Vögelchen und Schmetterling. Ich finde es schreit förmlich "Frühling". (Nun ja, heute schrie es und schrie es, aber der Frühling antwortete nicht -.- nur der freche Wind, der immer unter den Rock pusten wollte...)

Das Kleid ist zweilagig, da der graue Stoff sehr dünn ist. Seitlich hat er einen Reißverschluss. Der Schnitt passte in Gr. 38 ganz gut, ich habe nur die Abnäher hinten etwas kleiner gemacht. Und der Rockteil besteht aus zwei Rechtecken. Die passten auch auf Anhieb ;) Ich denke, das wird nicht das letzte Kleid nach dem Schnitt gewesen sein. Aber nun mal ein paar Bilder:
